John J. Keahon Obituary

John J. Keahon of Pearl River, NY passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2026. He was 72 years old.  John was born on November 10, 1953 in Nyack, NY to John A. and Rita J. Lockatell.

John grew up in Nanuet, NY where he met the love of his life, Nancy, at Nanuet High School. After dating many years, they married on July 17, 1977 and shared 48 wonderful years. Together, they raised two children, his daughter Katie Mercurio (Kevin) Pearl River, NY and son Christopher John, Greenwood Lake, NY. They were the pride and joy of his life.

John was a member of Sheetmetal Local #28 New York, NY for 33 years, retiring from Celtic Sheetmetal in 2010. A talented worker, John was never one to sit idle. He will be remembered as a skilled craftsman, always eager to help his family and others.

He was a lifetime member of Pearl River Elks #2041 Club and proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 3. John always looked forward to marching in the Pearl River St. Patrick’s Parade. Memories of John will always include the many good times spent at his home. John was known and will be remembered for being exceptionally social, warm, and loyal. He made people feel welcomed and loved. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Survived by his by his twin sister, Jeanne Keahon (Bill)  Franklin, NY,  Jim, Summerville, SC.  Tom (Galina) Chester, NY, Rita Jo Keahon (Joe) Nanuet, NY, Andrew (Lisa) Stony Point, NY and sister-in-law Lana Clohessy (Mike) Pearl River, NY and many nieces and nephews. “Poppy” to Avery, Emily, Alex and baby Luke (dec). John was predeceased by his sister-in-law Barbara.

John will be remembered as one who loved being around people and spending time with family and friends. As an outdoorsman forever interested in the world around him, John enjoyed ice/fishing, hiking, gardening, NY Yankees, as well as home renovation projects. He cherished all the time he spent with his grandchildren as they called him the “inventor”.  

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY. A mass of Christian burial celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret ‘s Church, 115 W. Central Avenue, Pearl River, NY. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in John’s name to the students of St. Margaret of Antioch  School. Checks can be sent to St. Margaret ‘s Church (in Memo important to include) c/o the students of SMS ,34 N. Magnolia Street,Pearl River NY 10965. John, his siblings and children attended St. Margaret’s School.
